Meet the September 2019 Student of the Month
ON CAMPUS STUDENT: DENICE LASTRA-BLANCO
Currently working towards a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership, Denice is a junior from Fort Collins, Colorado. Denice is involved heavily on campus in various organizations. She is a senator for Student Government Association, a chair for Student Relations and Involvement, a mentor for Tiger Team and Project Light House, a Hispanic American Leadership Organization member, and much more. Outside school, Denice enjoys drawing, painting, getting coffee at Breathe Coffee House, and going to community events, like Tiger Athletics, with friends. Denice became involved in the department after meeting with the staff because she “wanted to have the opportunity to excel within my leadership skills and learn about its development over the years.” Once she was accepted into the Live, Learn, Lead Learning Community, Denice declared Leadership as her major. Denice’s favorite class has been Field Work in Leadership Studies because it allowed her to work hands-on and fully understand the concepts she learned in that and previous leadership courses. She enjoyed developing friendships with her team, being pushed out of her comfort zone, and using acts of kindness to leave an impact on the Hays community. Congratulations, Denice!
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT: DORIS TAN
Originally from Henan Xinyang, Doris Tan is a senior working towards a double major in international economy, trade, and Organizational Leadership. Doris chose to get involved in Leadership because it helps her improve her awareness and critical thinking ability and see personal areas needing improvement. It also carries many traits that will be helpful to her after graduation. Her favorite course has been fieldwork in leadership studies because it allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of Leadership through the combination of learning and practice. “We should not only learn leadership knowledge, but more importantly, we should have personal experience.” Outside of class, Doris has worked at her school dormitory. She enjoys part-time work, not only because she can earn money but because she can develop rich life experiences. Doris also spends her time traveling with friends and learning about the customs of different cities or watching movies like Forrest Gump or the Avengers. Congratulations, Doris!
